A Difficult Time For Me and My Family
It's been a very difficult past 2 weeks for me and my family and it's times like these that you realise how important your family, friends and loved ones are. If you work all the time and don't spend time with your loved ones, then you need to re-think your priorities.
The work you do in your Internet Business is important but don't forget the reasons you are doing it for.
I work as hard as I do because I want to lead an enjoyable life, spend time with my family, have the money to care for my friends and family when needed and offer myself and my family and friends a bright future.
This has really hit home the past couple of weeks!
It all started off when I went to visit my brother at his house a few weeks ago. I'd known he hadn't been feeling well and had been to the doctors a couple of times but until I actually saw him, I didn't realise how bad he was.
As soon as I saw him, I called for a doctor to come out and see him as he wasn't in a fit enough state to visit the doctor himself. The doctor came, checked him out and then called for an ambulance. I hadn't realised how serious this was until now.
I went in the ambulance with them and we went to the hospital. I then stayed with him until later that evening when he went in for an operation.
This was a very difficult time for me and I was very upset. I tried to be strong but sometimes it's difficult when you know there is something seriously wrong with a member of your family.
I called my parents who are seperated and explained the situation to them. They both came down the next day to see my brother who had had his initial operation. The operation was successful and they thought he would get better fairly quickly.
On the Saturday, my brother had a CT scan that revealed the infection he had was tracking up higher into his body. He would have to have a much longer and more serious operation which was potentially life threatening.
I was with my family at the time and it was very hard to keep strong for my mother and sister when I knew things could turn out badly. I tried to think as positive as I could and prayed for my brother to come through safely.
That evening was one of the hardest times of my life waiting with all my family for a phone call from the hospital.
The phone call eventually came about 10.30pm and thank god, he had got through the operation. They had removed the infected tissue but he still had blood poisioning.
He then went into intensive care where he was sedated for 5 days. Each day, I'd go and talk to him to tell him what had been going on and to give him positive thoughts for him to get better. Even though he couldn't hear me physically, I was sure his subconscious mind would hear me.
It has definitely made me think about how important my family is and it's made me realise how beneficial having a home based business is. Fortunately I didn't need to ask anyone for time off from work, and I continued to earn from various passive income streams. If I'd have had the stress of losing money whilst I was worrying about my brother, it would have been much harder for me.
My brother is still in hospital but he's getting better and is up on a normal ward and out of Intensive Care. The doctors think he'll be out within a few weeks and we have already made plans for him to come and live with us for a few months to help him get back on his feet.
There are still many challenges ahead of us but fortunately, I work from home and can look after him better than if I had to work 9-5 each day.
Just remember how important your family, friends and loved ones are and try to spend as much time as you can with them. Make sure the time you spend is quality time and that you're not thinking about your work whilst you're with them. Learn to seperate your life into 'work time' and 'family time' and focus on the task at hand and be present, in the moment.
Our friends have been fantastic and very supportive and I'm so thankful we have a network of friends like them.
We are going away to Italy next week for a well deserved break. I can't wait to be on the beach and by the pool relaxing and not worrying about anything.
If you've ever been in a similar situation or have similar experiences with a loved one getting sick, drop me a comment to let me know how you got through it.

Very sorry to hear about your brother.
I wish him a speedy recovery and wish you the strength for emotional support in your family.
Your point on spending more time with family is well taken. I have purposely been spending more "quality" time with my 2 year old - really internalizing the fact that I won't have this chance come around again.
Take care,
Roger
Gavin, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your brother, and your family. May your brother have a speedy recovery. And you are so right, friends and family are what it's all about. Take care.
I'm so sorry to hear of your brother's illness Gavin, but glad he's getting better. You're a good brother!
About 26 years ago my, then, 3 1/2 yr. old daughter was hit by a car, right in front of my eyes. There was nothing I could do to stop it as I had a newborn in my arms at the time. I felt so helpless!
Anyway, she had a broken thigh bone but that was all. At the time it happened though, I thought she was going to die because she was unconscious for a while. The only thing I could do, as you did, was pray that the Lord wouldn't take her from me yet. I guess it worked…she's now 29 years old, a mom to three and has no lasting effects from the accident. As a matter of fact, she doesn't even remember it!
For someone as young as you are, you did a good job at keeping your head about you and dealing with the situation Gavin…well done on your part. Your parents should be proud of you!
Thanks for the great comments Roger, Emma and Susan, I really apprecate them
hi, i wish that he could recover his health as soon as possible. unfortunately, there would always be time in our lives that things like this could happen.
I'm glad your brother is getting better now.
My mom went through an operation when I was 10 years old. She's had a stomach ache for 2 days, but after going to the doctor, she was prescribed pain releivers. 5 days after and she's still in pain so she decided to get a second opinion. It was then that she was diagnosed of appendicitis. That same day, she undergone an operation.
The experience of my family of almost losing a mother wasn't good but it was an experience that has changed my dad forever.
Sometimes these things happen to remind us of the value of our family. I just hope it's not too late before we realize it.
Those things you just went through are really difficult man. Your advice to spending much quality time with your loved ones is a good one. Thanks and I hope you're brother is ok now. Be strong always and God Bless.
Thank you for sharing such intimate details we feel your pain.So know we are out here for you and your family in thought and prayer.
