Web 2.0 Techniques
Much has been said about what not to do to a website from the 1.0 perspective – hopefully you will enjoy my upgrade.
1. No Interactivity
We have progressed so far beyond static websites that if you do not have something on your site that is guaranteed to engage the reader through interactivity, you will inevitably lose that reader. If you have a blog, “widgets” are often available that will add some form of interactivity to your page. While the content should be attractive enough to keep them, your site is more likely to be bookmarked if it has something that your audience can “click on” to keep them interested.
Evaluating social media marketing is different than just counting Web site usage or circulation numbers. You want to measure how well you are doing at engaging the public. To do this successfully you should measure both the amount and the intensity of the engagement.
Here are some examples of what you need to monitor:
1/ How many blog readers do you have?
2/ How many comments are posted by how many different visitors?
3/ How many people mention your site on their blogs, and how often?
4/ Are search engine results predominantly positive or negative?
5/ Is your content bookmarked in social bookmarking sites?
6/ How many friends and contacts do you have on your profile in social networking sites?
7/ How many comments or scrapbook entries are you receiving?
8/ How many visitors contribute content to your site (videos, photos, documents, wiki entries)?
What was the last business email that you forwarded? If that email kept getting forwarded and forwarded, it could have been the start of a viral marketing campaign for a business.
Viral marketing has become an unstoppable marketing force for businesses both off and online. It is a technique that uses people’s pre-existing networks to promote a company’s or a product’s brand awareness.
The term ‘viral’ comes from the same concept as a virus - it spreads! But, in this case the spreading is a good thing.
One of the most effective viral marketing techniques involves videos, or podcasts. YouTube has revolutionized the podcast phenomenon with over 200 million clicks per day happening on their site! You can leverage this technology as well as several other viral video marketing techniques to grow your business online.
Social Networking (Web 2.0), Use Multi-media
Wherever possible, use video, podcasts and newsfeeds as often as possible.
You have heard over and over again – Content is King! – And that is still true. However, armies of writers creating 500 word articles are now just one small part of Internet marketing. Think further and bigger and use multi-media when planning your Web 2.0 strategy.
Why write a how-to, when you can do a video?
Why transcribe an interview, when you can do a podcast?
Why talk about something/someone, when you can set up newsfeeds?
If you can do more than just write about your niche – then DO! Video has become so simple; there is no excuse in technology limitations any more. A simple digital camera will plug right in to your computer and software is free and extremely simple to use.
A great list of “Digg-like sites”, that MUST be part of your social marketing plan.
The importance of Social Marketing and using Social Bookmarking sites can not be underestimated. However, sticking a DIGG button on the end of a few of your blog posts is NOT gonna cut the mustard! Social Bookmarking sites for social marketing have been around for a long time, and many are used for certain categories.
If you niche fits in a particular category, with a ‘digg-like’ social bookmarking site, then by all means ensure you use it as part of your social marketing strategy.
Here is a big list of Social Bookmark sites and their categories for you to ‘play with’. Some have been in use for longer than Digg itself, most enable links (although not all), and all can help you with social networking to increase traffic.
Evaluating social marketing is different than just counting Web site usage or circulation numbers. You want to measure how well your social marketing is doing at engaging the public via social media. And you should measure both the amount and the intensity of the engagement.
Obviously, if you have succeeded at suggestions in my previous posts, such as Be Remarkable, and you have needed to increase your hosting package to accommodate 5 million viewers since your message went viral, then it would be fair to evaluate your efforts as WORKING!
However, social marketing can be very subtle in showing results, and in some cases you will find that the volume of traffic is not what increases. In fact, the QUALITY of the people visiting your site may be where you find significant differences. This is because the very nature of social marketing involves a kind of “recommendation service”. Your users are actually referring you customers, and for that reason you may find sales increasing, without any traffic increase at all.
How many blogs/articles have you digged or propelled this week? What does it take to inspire you to take the time to hit a button and give someone a vote? When you read an average article – even if it is very informative, it needs to be presented in a certain way to make it remarkable and unique.
The idea is to be different. Creative. Unusual. And often funny too!
Social marketing is a 'viral’ form of promotion'. To go ‘viral’, you need something people will talk about. An example of how something plain and boring can go viral when you use creative ideas and a bit of humour, is the “Blend it” advertisements (youtube).
This famous set of advertisements for Blendtec, began as a simple video production of ‘scientists’ blending all sorts of items from iphones to ipods. The results were viral, and more than 4 million hits on a single advertisement resulted.

If you use online marketing in any shape or form, it’s important that you use several different sites for your online marketing strategy.
By now, you must have realised that writing articles, whether it be for your blog, article directory, web-site or even forum posts, is the cornerstone of becoming an online marketer.

Create A Web 2.0 Marketing Plan
I am presuming you have all been PARTICIPATING, following the seven tips on Web 2.0 and Social Bookmarking on my previous post.
You still have 6 other strategies to implement, and creating a plan is an important step. I say CREATING a plan with the emphasis on the word CREATIVE. The successful Web 2.0 Internet Marketer of the future will likely be the ones who break from traditional marketing ideas and step out of the box, weaving creative ideas in their business.
Imagine how boring the Internet would become if it was just another avenue to deliver some junk mail, gather leads, place some advertising and pitch to potential customers. You need to get your head around the idea that the Internet is more than just another marketing avenue to dish out the same old stuff of yonder years.
Social Networking (Web 2.0), stop browsing and start participating.
It all seems to be a bit of a puzzle.
Web 2.0,
Social Bookmarking,
Social Networking,
and Social Marketing.
It’s all new and unknown stuff.
And the unknown is often dealt with by ignoring it and hoping it will go away. For businesses that market online (does any business not market online nowadays?), this is a big mistake.
So here is what you need to do to embrace Web 2.0
• Learn about social media (subscribing to this blog is going to help you there)
• Create a Web 2.0 marketing plan (this blog can help you there too)
• Participate! This is the NUMBER ONE piece of advice to take right now. (see below)
• Be Unique, and think out of the box. It’s actually quite fun.
This is no easy feat, that’s for sure. But it is possible, and all you need is some 'votes’. Social bookmarking has taken such an important leap as far as online marketing is concerned, that it is now possible to gain 10 if not 20 thousand visitors in just 24 hours by marketing on sites such as delicious and digg.com
If you can get your article to appear on the first page of digg.com, all I can say is..
PREPARE YOUR SERVER!
Here are some tips on making it to the top…
1) HEADLINES MAKE OR BREAK YOU
The headline of your article must be catchy. If you are not a brilliant writer, you either need to spend some time learning this skill, or pay someone to do it for you. (Try outsourcing to elance.com, for quick articles and specify that you will pay extra for Killer Headlines)
2) THE SHORT, SWIFT DESCRIPTION
The description of your article also needs to be clever… yet short. If your headline sounds amazing…
Eg: “How to make $10,000 in one day”
It should be followed by a description that validates such a statement, or else the reader will believe it is untrue or a lie.
3) I AM WHAT I SAID I AM
This relates to that very first paragraph you write. If your heading makes your audience stand up like a group of Meerkats, and your description has them hypnotised, don’t just stop there. In your first paragraph, validate why your article is the “king pin” from the very beginning.
4) SEE, I DELIVERED
Obviously, your article had better deliver on its promise and should be worthwhile reading and not regurgitated junk.
5) MAKE IT EASY
Why Use Facebook Social Ads?
Google is, and will always be a great place to advertise your product, service, affiliate program or offer, but competition is fierce and many people go broke using Google Adwords if they dont understand it. There are hundreds of how to make money with adwords manuals for people to learn from and many people make alot of money doing this.
Adwords started to get popular between 3-5 years ago and if you were using the Internet and were a pretty clued up marketer back in those days, then you would have made a lot of money!
Now, imagine if you were around when Google first launched its PPC network and you had the knowledge that you have today. How much money do you think you could make? Well…….. If you take notice of this and all subsequent articles, blog posts and manuals that will be hitting the web soon, then you could be in at the beginning of a brand new phenomenon! FaceBook's PPC Advertising Platform.
Well today is going to be the first day of the rest of my life! A new business to be part of, another income stream, another focus, another passion, meeting more friends, helping more people, living the dream and having fun!
Sounds great doesn't it? Well, lets hope so after all the hard work and effort I have put in. Most of my regular readers know that this blog is an Internet Marketing and Network Marketing blog with social networking and social marketing tips also. I basically talk about what I do online, how I make my money, what businesses I am involved with etc to try to show people that it is possible with a bit of hard work and determination!
Many of you have heard me mention uVme many times before and those of you who aren't involved yet are more than likely getting fed up of my talking about it
Sorry…
Social Network Internet marketing sounds easy, and in general… it is. Initially, you will find it a little time-consuming. Perhaps much the same way as regular Blogging – at first it seems a bit of a handful.
Here are some Social Network Internet Marketing Tips to help you get in to the flow. Just take on one thing at a time, rather than try to create hundreds of pages in every Social Network Site on the planet.
1/ Create Squidoo Lenses
The format of Squidoo is so simple, you would be mad not to take advantage. It is particularly effective for finding pre-converted traffic.
2/ Get Your Content on Scribd.com
Scribd.com has been making big waves, with large funds being used to push it’s popularity. A place to upload documents in most formats, it is tipped to become a YouTube for ebooks and similar documents. Scribd.com has recently changed their policy. They no longer allow users to add the links inside their documents. I will explain more on this in the near future.
If you have been interested in making money using the Internet and working from home, you will find the New Way to make money is around a concept called Social Media or Social marketing.
In Internet Marketing Circles, Social Marketing / Networking is creating a big buzz and just this week, top Internet Marketers have confirmed that Social Marketing / Networking is in fact the REAL DEAL, and will be the way to go forward if you wish to make money online over the next year at least. (Hey! A year is a long time in Internet speak!)
Social Marketing / Networking has become popular thanks to the amazing popularity of websites such as MySpace, FaceBook and YouTube, although do not be mistaken in thinking these are the only sites which are successful in Social marketing / Networking circles.
Social Network Internet Marketing can skyrocket your Search Rankings. In the 1990’s, getting a site ranked so customers found you with ‘meta-tag style keywords was an cinch. Recently, blogging and article directories have been the key to ranking well in Search Engines, particularly with Google who coined the phrase “Content is King”. Now Social Network Internet Marketing has changed all that. What this means is that you need to be in a group and making ‘Friends”, as Content is no longer King – Friends Are!
Why… Where’s the Proof?
Google a phrase. It can be any phrase. It’s guaranteed a social network site will be in the first 10 spots. This is why, Social Network Internet Marketing can help you get at least one (in some cases up to
spots on the first page of search engine results for many of your keywords.
As I have been talking about the advantage of Social Networking Sites, I thought it a good idea to list several free social networking sites. Fair enough, a little Google work and you could find them yourself, however, I have had my outsourced staff do a little legwork for you.
Here is just a ‘tip of the iceberg’ of free social networking sites that are active and could help propel your business to success in 2008.

Just when you think you know everything, and can conquer the world… A video like this turns up and lets you know your small place in this world!
It seems now is a good time to GET SMART, as the world is evolving faster than you would ever thought possible.
Although overwhelming, it is also inspiring. It gives a scope of the POTENTIAL the Internet still has. Imagine all those Chinese people arriving online over the next decade.
All aspiring to the Western Way of life (a little similar to the Japanese awakening in the 1980’s), and being more able than ever to embrace all things modern, through the Web.
The figures in this video are truly mind-numbing. Whilst I cannot veto the citations for all these figures, there is no doubt enough truth in them to give the brain some food for thought.
Group tagging and group posting may sound a bit weird to you, but hopefully if your a savvy Internet or Network marketer, you have heard of it before and are starting to realise the importance of it. If you aren't taking part in group tagging, then you really should be!
Clever marketers are starting to work smarter rather than harder and are combining the power of like minded marketers to boost their front page listings in Google and other search engines!
What is Group Tagging and Posting?
Social media, social networking, and social bookmarking sites are becomming very popular both with visitors and with the search engines. Sites like digg.com, stumbleupon, reddit, facebook, ka-boom-it, propeller etc can all help to rank your site or webpage higher in the search engines.
