Embrace Web 2.0 - Video Presentation 1

I have just finshed making my first presentation and Im looking for some feedback from my readers, after all, its you who is going to have to watch them :-)

As most people know, videos online have been growing in popularity for a while  and they are a fantastic traffic building tool! I have recently purchased a digital camcorder, camtasia and various other equipement to start making videos. This video below is a power point presentation and is the first video in a 6 part series which I will be making over the next few weeks.

I hope to improve my video making skills and my voice narration etc. I'm really looking forward to doing more of these videos and Im setting aside 3-4 hours per day to learn about making videos, presentations and webcasts.

Here is the video:

Once you have watched it, please drop me a comment at the bottom of this video. Tell me what I can do to improve it, what you liked about it, do you like the template, what should I change or add etc.

The more feedback I can get from you guys, the better. I can then work hard to incorporate your feedback and suggestions into the next video.

Thanks

Well, as soon as I posted this, I could see the first thing that needs to be sorted out. My Logo in the bottom right corner is obscured by the YouTube logo.

I will have to address that issue in the next video but its a learning curve.

Ryan nice job at putting together the video. It's nice to put a voice to a name, but better yet…why not do one with a video of you so we can see you and get to know you, start that relationship. I have been adding video to my site since December and yes it is the up and coming thing. Without all the equipment it's a little tougher doing your own video of you. I use a Flip Video Camera - carry it all the time and use it for testimonials, videos for my blog, happy birthdays, or doing a viral video. Good job though!

Nice video Gavin, I enjoyed it very much. I like the part about you won't learn until you actually start experimenting. I'll be back for the rest of the series.

Scott @ 6:32 pm

Very well done.

Having both audio & visual at the same time does wonders. :o)

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for the comment! Yes, I am definately going to be doing some video of myself in front of the camera. I have done a few in the past, but this time they are going to be more professional. (Im going to make sure I know what Im meant to be saying this time :-)

Thanks Emma, Glad you enjoyed it, I will finish the rest hopefully over the next few weeks. The next one will be published either tomorrow or tuesday.

Cheers Scott, yeah definately… audio and video definately have a better effect than either one on their own.

Thanks for the positive comments!

Notes on your video:

* try to sound a bit more excited about what you are talking about (think Don Crowther)
* text is very hard to read after it has been obliterated by YouTube's compression algorithm. Try to just have a couple of bullet points per page, and have text (when used) be very large
* use images instead of text wherever you can. The point of doing video is to enhance what you're reading off of your script. If the image part does not add to the user experience, then just do an audio-only presentation.
* put your watermark (ryanshamus.com) somewhere other than the lower right corner - that's where YouTube puts its watermark and obscures your own branding (oops - realized you already caught this after reading your comments)

Other than that, it's good stuff! The length is about right for casual video watching. If you are going to make a product out of this then you can justify going a little longer to go into a little more depth.

Cheers!
