How To Embrace Web 2.0 - Part 5 - Use Multi-media
Social Networking (Web 2.0), Use Multi-media
Wherever possible, use video, podcasts and newsfeeds as often as possible.
You have heard over and over again – Content is King! – And that is still true. However, armies of writers creating 500 word articles are now just one small part of Internet marketing. Think further and bigger and use multi-media when planning your Web 2.0 strategy.
Why write a how-to, when you can do a video?
Why transcribe an interview, when you can do a podcast?
Why talk about something/someone, when you can set up newsfeeds?
If you can do more than just write about your niche – then DO! Video has become so simple; there is no excuse in technology limitations any more. A simple digital camera will plug right in to your computer and software is free and extremely simple to use.
For example: if you have a cooking niche – why write up the ingredients and instructions when you can show people with a Camcorder propped on a tripod?
VIDEO
To get started, you can’t go wrong with YouTube. Over 100 million video downloads are actioned at YouTube every single day. It’s just too big a marketing opportunity to overlook. Create short videos and post them to YouTube and other video-sharing sites. Use catchy titles and try to bring a humorous element to your videos, as this remains popular and has the potential of ‘going viral’. Many feel they have to ‘sell, sell, sell’ with their videos, but this is not necessary. It’s far more important to provide content in an interesting or even ‘quirky’ manor to create a spark of interest.
PODCASTS
Look at creating podcasts. Interviews, guest speakers and reading of a book extract are all examples that lend themselves to podcasts. Again, you can use free multimedia software, and they are quick and easy to produce. Remember to speak slowly and clearly, and animate your voice a little rather than a long and boring monologue.
With both podcasts and video, it is important to keep it short. More than 3 minutes is more than enough, unless it is absolutely ‘riviting’ information.
NEWSFEEDS
Be sure to set up newsfeeds for releases of audio and video content so your audience can opt in and be notified of new releases. For step by step instructions on how to set up newsfeeds (RSS), visit this link:
