How To Get More Than 10,000 Visitors To Your Site In One Day
This is no easy feat, that’s for sure. But it is possible, and all you need is some 'votes’. Social bookmarking has taken such an important leap as far as online marketing is concerned, that it is now possible to gain 10 if not 20 thousand visitors in just 24 hours by marketing on sites such as delicious and digg.com
If you can get your article to appear on the first page of digg.com, all I can say is..
PREPARE YOUR SERVER!
Here are some tips on making it to the top…
1) HEADLINES MAKE OR BREAK YOU
The headline of your article must be catchy. If you are not a brilliant writer, you either need to spend some time learning this skill, or pay someone to do it for you. (Try outsourcing to elance.com, for quick articles and specify that you will pay extra for Killer Headlines)
2) THE SHORT, SWIFT DESCRIPTION
The description of your article also needs to be clever… yet short. If your headline sounds amazing…
Eg: “How to make $10,000 in one day”
It should be followed by a description that validates such a statement, or else the reader will believe it is untrue or a lie.
3) I AM WHAT I SAID I AM
This relates to that very first paragraph you write. If your heading makes your audience stand up like a group of Meerkats, and your description has them hypnotised, don’t just stop there. In your first paragraph, validate why your article is the “king pin” from the very beginning.
4) SEE, I DELIVERED
Obviously, your article had better deliver on its promise and should be worthwhile reading and not regurgitated junk.
5) MAKE IT EASY
You need to make it easy for your readers to digg you or add you to delicious, or stumble you (whichever social bookmarking site you like). Make sure you go to the social bookmarking site you are interested in and add the buttons required.
6) KEEP AN EYE ON THE TIME
Brilliant posts can be totally overlooked, because they are posted at the wrong time. You do not have much time for an article to go viral and hit the front page of a social bookmarking site, so timing is very important. There are many arguments about which are the best times to post. My advice is approximately 3pm US central time (before 10am US central time is the worst time of the day.)
7) CATEGORICALLY SPEAKING
Submit to the correct category. The more general your chosen category is, the more competition. Never submit to “general”, or “miscellaneous”, as this is where the junk all goes. Find the closest possible category, and if it does not work, re-submit under a different category until you get it right.
SHARE THE WEALTH
This is one of the most overlooked marketing strategies on the Internet as a whole. Link to lots of informative sites and you will be taken more seriously than the hundreds of “self-promoters” clogging the social sites. Yes, this may mean sending your traffic to look at other people’s work! Don’t worry – in the online world, karma works! You will receive back through ratings and subsequently – TRAFFIC.
9) KEEP IT FRESH
Suddenly deciding that the article you wrote last year would be popular on Digg.com or Stumblupon.com today is a mistake. Do not bother to submit old news, as this will kill your profile. Fresh, new, interesting articles only please – this, after all, is the whole purpose of social site searches.
10) THE TRUTH DAMMIT
Your article needs to be the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. So check your facts. Your comments may consist of corrections and sarcastic posts; furthermore, you will start to receive negative votes, which equals SUICIDE in the social bookmarking game. It’s also worthwhile checking your article for grammar and spelling mistakes as this is attracts the wrong attention to your article.
11) NOT ALL SITES ARE THE SAME
If you have a political story, it will probably be most popular on Netscape. A celebrity story or feel-good story may do well on delicious. Apple Mac does well on Digg. Every social site has a slightly different genre of reader. Choose carefully. Start by researching the top submissions of each social site and find the one most suited to your topic.
12) RSVP – PLEASE
Social bookmarking sites are not a newsgroup but interesting articles can trigger a pretty heated discussion with hundreds of comments. If your article gets comments, you must be proud. Always respond to commends on your stories and even better – post comments on other stories you find interesting. This is a way to make friends and to create a top-profile.
13) OUT AND OUT BEG!
If you have an email list you could politely send the article to your entire list, with an honest request to “help you take this article to the front page please”. Add a link that takes the email reader directly to the article in Digg, so it’s a simple 2-click process to vote, and your loyal customers may well take you to the top. (the timing of this needs to be carefully planned)
REMEMBER: JUST 50 VOTES CAN TAKE YOU TO THE FRONT PAGE (DEPENDING ON LEVEL OF COMPETITION)
Good luck and please let me know your thoughts. Have you had success with this before? Are you trying to achieve this for the first time?
Drop me a comment please if you liked this article or if you have anything to share.
Many Thanks
Gavin

By far, the easiest social traffic is Stumbleupon.com. Any good post/page of creative or read worthy content can get hundreds of stumbles. If those stumblers who visit the site like the page they see, a flood of thousands of visitors can be directed to the site over a day or two.
What do you think of recent dig backlash… now 50 votes might not get you front page listing… Of course you can always game the system
but I always wondered how long can keep gaming?
Ah well, I had success with stumbleupon and surprisingly stumbleupon traffic has low bounce rate (mine was around 24%) , StumbleUpon users tend to hang around on your site a lot longer, read more posts.
Having a quality article is the best way to attract more readers from your site. Well, I just start working with Social bookmarking service, I'm looking forward to see the results.
It is an interesting article and it seems like a online marketers dream to get so much traffic. I may be happy for the back links that I would get from social book marking. Personally, I find writing good articles the best way to get targeted traffic.
I wonder how difficult it is to monetize social media traffic. I don't know if this traffic is resistant to advertising and for how long they may stay on the site. CPM may very well be the only advertising model. Great if they sign up for your newsletter, at least for those that do direct marketing. Having heavy traffic until your server is crashing is one thing, converting them into happy customers is another. Of course that doesn't mean that social media is bad as long as we can convert them.
